Description

I photographed Tom Waits for Andy Warhol's "Interview" magazine. Tom wanted to be shot in Times Square. I had photographed several bands and artists in Times Square and knew that I could attract pigeons by spreading popcorn or bread on the sidewalk. This day was so cold that the pigeons were hanging out on the grating above the subway for warm air. The pigeons wouldn't fly even when Tom tried to make them.
